Abstract

Thank to bullish sales of the Apple iPhone (assembled and contract manufactured by Foxconn) that hit the record high of 20 million units per quarter, in conjunction with the anticipated shipment performance of Taiwanese leading Smartphone maker HTC, the Taiwanese Smartphone industry's shipment volume is anticipated to have reached approximately 35.363 million units and the industry's shipment value to have reached US$9.134 billion in the second quarter of 2011. It is estimated that the industry's second-quarter shipment volume and value have grown 15.6% and 15.3%, respectively, in comparison to the first quarter of 2011. This indicates that the devastating earthquake happened in East Japan on March 11 did not cause significant disruption in the supply chain of leading Smartphone brands such as Apple and HTC as originally expected.
